Reflections
Think of a time you prayed for God to answer, but He didn't answer the way you wanted Him to. How did you respond?
Is there currently something you've been praying about that God has not answered? How long have you been waiting for an answer? What will you do about it now?
When God doesn't answer, how do you normally handle His silence?

Jonah 4:2
I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.
Let’s set the scene: Jonah just preached the shortest sermon in history (a whole five words in Hebrew), and Nineveh—the most savage, wicked city—actually repents. But instead of celebrating this miracle, Jonah throws a tantrum. Why? Because God didn’t smite them on the spot. Jonah’s salty because he knows God’s heart too well—gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and overflowing with love. And honestly, aren’t we all a little Jonah sometimes?
Think about it: we love God’s grace when it’s directed at us, but when it’s extended to someone who wronged us? Suddenly, we’re ready for fire and brimstone. Jonah reminds us that God’s mercy doesn’t operate on our terms. His love isn’t limited, conditional, or petty like ours can be. Instead, it’s boundless and relentless, even for the people we’d rather see canceled. Let this verse challenge you to reflect God’s heart in your relationships. Love big, forgive freely, and remember that if His grace can cover you, it can cover anyone.
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8 is one of those verses that hits like a mic drop. God doesn’t need your rituals, your perfect attendance at church, or your ten-point Bible study notes. What He’s asking for is simple (but not easy): justice, mercy, and humility. Let’s break that down. Acting justly? That means standing up for what’s right, even when it’s inconvenient. Loving mercy? That’s showing compassion, even to people who don’t deserve it. And walking humbly? That’s recognizing that it’s not about you—it’s about Him.
This verse calls us back to the basics, but don’t mistake “basic” for easy. It’s easy to say you’re about justice, but will you speak up when it costs you? Mercy sounds great until it’s your turn to forgive someone who hurt you. And humility? Whew, that one’s a lifelong journey. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t just require these things—He empowers us to live them out through His Spirit. So, let’s commit to living lives that reflect His heart, one small step at a time.
Habakkuk 3:17-18
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines… yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
Habakkuk is out here giving us a masterclass in faith. He’s looking around at a world that’s falling apart—no crops, no livestock, no hope in sight—and yet, he chooses to rejoice. Let’s be real: this kind of joy is not the “happy-clappy, everything’s fine” kind. It’s a raw, defiant joy that says, “Even when nothing makes sense, I’m trusting God anyway.”
This verse challenges us to stop basing our joy on circumstances. Life will have its seasons of scarcity—financial struggles, broken relationships, unanswered prayers—but God’s goodness doesn’t waver. Habakkuk shows us that joy rooted in God isn’t about ignoring reality; it’s about anchoring yourself in a deeper reality. So, the next time life feels like it’s on fire, take a page from Habakkuk’s book: lift your hands, praise through the pain, and declare that God is still good, even in the waiting.
